Born in 1827 in Neiderberg, Bavaria, Germany, He came with his parents to Columbus, Ohio in 1832.
He learned gunsmithing in Columbus and opened his own shop in 1847 arleady. In 1849 he moved to
Loudonville where he bought the business of gunmaker William Sprague.
In 1855 he studied under William Billinghurst. At the 1877 national shoot he won the first prize.
Several hundred Kentucky style rifles, target rifles were made in over 30 years. The cost of
such guns complete with wooden carrying case and accessories was US$ 50.
